About the Client
Bentilee Neighbourhood Centre is a health and community centre located in Bentilee, Stoke on Trent.
Bentilee is the third largest local authority Estate in Europe. It has in excess of 10.000 residents living within the Bentilee and Ubberley wards with some of these residents fall in the top 10% of the most deprived residents within the city.
The centre supports these areas with a selection of activities, local groups and facilities, together with a range of medical and dental services.
The Requirement
As a valued resource to the local community, the team at Bentilee Neighbourhood Centre are always looking at ways in which they can improve the facilities available. One of these is the community library space.
During 2023 the decision was made to dramatically grow the library facility for the benefit of visitors. To maximise the space and ensure capacity for future expansion, it was decided that the implementation of roller racking/mobile shelving system would give them the maximum yield from the space available.
To bring their ideas to life, the team engaged with locally based storage manufacturer Rackline, based on its many years of experience and in particular their ability to custom design and manufacture systems to fit their building.
The Solution
After initial discussions around shelving solutions, and the options available, Rackline undertook a space audit to identify any existing shelving in place, and produce layout plans. These showed ways that different storage solutions would work, and which ones would both maximise the space and retain accessibility
Following on from the planning stage, the team at Bentilee Neighbourhood Centre settled on plans including the use of Rackline’s time tested Multitrak roller racking solution, topped with Profile library shelving bays at 300/400 and 350mm depths. In total 443 bays of shelving were planned providing 2658 Linear Metres of book storage.
The Result
The library shelving, and mobile solutions installed by the Rackline team provide huge amounts of storage space for the library, while retaining ease of access. The capacity is such that they have room for their current stock, and huge amounts of expansion for the future.
